1. Poetry is a written art.  Poetry is a person's literary work in conveying messages through diction and written patterns.  With a beautiful language which contains meaning, rhythm, rhyme, dimension and verse.

2. The genre of English poetry, there are three main genres : Narrative, Lyric, Dramatic

a. Narrative poetry

Narrative poetry is poetry that tell a story. 

The Song of Hiawatha

On the Mountains of the Prairie,

On the great Red Pipe-stone Quarry,

Gitche Manito, the mighty,

He the Master of Life, descending,

On the red crags of the quarry

Stood erect, and called the nations,

Called the tribes of men together."

b. Lyric poetry

This type of poetry is divided into several types, namely elegies, ode, and serenade.

Example :

Go, lovely Rose-

Tell her that wastes her time and me,

That now she knows,

When I resemble her to thee,

How sweet and fair she seems to be.

Tell her that's young,

And shuns to have her graces spied,

That hadst thou sprung

In deserts where no men abide,

Thou must have uncommended died.

Small is the worth

Of beauty from the light retired:

Bid her come forth,

Suffer herself to be desired,

And not blush so to be admired.

Then die-that she

The common fate of all things rare

May read in thee;

How small a part of time they share

That are so wondrous sweet and fair!

c. Dramatic poetry

Dramatic poetry is poetry that describes a person's behavior objectively, be it a description of someone's behavior, dialogue or monologue.

Example :

DREAM it was in which I found myself.

And you that hail me now, then hailed me king,

In a brave palace that was all my own,

Within, and all without it, mine; until,

Drunk with excess of majesty and pride,

Methought I towered so big and swelled so wide

That of myself I burst the glittering bubble

Which my ambition had about me blown

And all again was darkness. Such a dream

As this, in which I may be walking now,

Dispensing solemn justice to you shadows,

Who make believe to listen; but anon

Kings, princes, captains, warriors, plume and steel,

Ay, even with all your airy theater,

May flit into the air you seem to rend.

3. The genre of Indonesian poetry, there are seven main genres :

a. Balada

b. Hymne

c. Ode

d. Epigram

e. Romansa

f. Elegi

g. Satire

Example :

- Ode

 My teacher ...

 Light in my darkness

 Filler all my blanks

 Conditioning the wilting of my heart

 You kill all ignorance

 You light up every side of the soul

 You are vulnerable to all negative views

 Your heart is truly noble

 What a sacrifice you have

 Your sincerity is priceless

 Your suit is like precious gold

 Will not be replaced until death picks up

 Will not be covered by the ugliness of the world

 My teacher ...

 I thank you from the bottom of my heart

 That day there was no place to run

 Moaning is meaningless

 Regret is useless
